The Nintendo DS Lite (Nintendō Dīesu Raito?) is the redesigned version of the Nintendo DS. First announced on January 26, 2006 and released on March 2, 2006 in Japan for ¥16,000 ($140). The console arrived in the United States on June 11, 2006 and in Europe on June 23, 2006 for €150.00.

The modifications compared to the DS are:

41% smaller and 21% more compact than the original DS
Two much brighter and contrasting screens (lighting adjustable according to 4 levels of brightness, allowing pleasant visibility in a bright environment)
D-pad reduced by 16% compared to the original DS; on the other hand the buttons A/B/X/Y keep the same dimensions as on the first version of DS. The Start and Select buttons are now found under the A/B/X/Y buttons.
Stylus 1 mm larger in diameter and 1 cm longer than the original stylus. It stores sideways.
Battery life: 15-19 hours playtime on lowest brightness, 5 hours playtime on highest brightness.
Shallower Game Boy Advance Port: GBA cartridges protrude 1.2cm. In addition, the port is filled with a blank cartridge, which prevents deterioration and completes the design of the console (the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot can be used to insert accessories such as a vibrating cartridge).
The wrist strap is no longer provided.
Design similar to that of the Nintendo Wii, directional pad identical to that of the Game Boy Micro.
Microphone moved between the two screens.
Power button, with sliding system, placed on the right side of the console.
Volume adjustment is more accurate
8 colors are available in Europe: White, Black, Pink, Silver, as well as Red and Blue, Green and Turquoise
