Blur is an action-packed racing game very similar to the Mario Kart series. But instead of driving go-karts through colorful environments shooting bananas and turtle shells, the game features dozens of licensed sports cars from several different manufacturers, including the Audi Quattro, Nissan 350Z, and Shelby GT-500, racing through fantasy and real-life worlds.
Scattered around these tracks are three different types of power-ups, including a repair kit and a shield, as well as five different weapons, such as the Target-Seeking Shunt, which are of course used to take out the competition. To this end, each car is completely unique in its stats such as strength, acceleration, etc., making it a very tactical decision as to which one to use for the different types of races and tracks. Events include normal races with and without power-ups, as well as purely destruction-focused races taking place in specially constructed arenas or on normal race tracks.
The core of the game is the single-player campaign. Divided into nine groups and taking place in over 14 different real-world locations, the player must fight their way to the top. Each group includes several different events, including a boss fight. If the player wins the boss fight, they earn their cars, including unique mods and finishes. To unlock new events and groups, the player must earn lights—up to seven for each event. While five lights are earned for first place, the last two can only be obtained by pleasing fans.
