Blood Bowl is an adaptation of the miniatures-based tabletop game of the same name. It plays as a turn-based strategy game played like an American football-style fantasy sports title and is different from versions on other platforms. You control a team of sixteen players, eleven of whom are allowed on the field at any time. The goal is to get the ball over your opponent's touchdown line by either running it into the end zone or throwing it to someone who catches it there. There are eight races, each with their own units and tactics: Chaos, Dwarf, Goblin, Human, Lizardmen, Orc, Skaven, and Wood Elf.
Single-player modes include a quick play option using 56 pre-defined teams and the main league option that lets you battle your way through fifteen tournaments. Multiplayer modes are two-player wireless/Ad-Hoc games or a Hotseat mode where both players take turns sharing a single device. In doing so, you build your own team of unique players, which you can save for local Wi-Fi head-to-head multiplayer matches or Cup and League matches against the computer.
Additionally, incentives allow you to implement dirty tactics for the match. Using your money, you can bribe referees to get extra dice rolls. Potions can be purchased, which are Blood Bowl's version of drugs, and to give you bonuses, you can hire crowds to cheer you on. All of these affect the outcome of the dice rolls.
