Binary Domain places the player in the role of Dan Marshall, leader of the RUST team sent to Tokyo to apprehend the CEO of Amada. Gameplay revolves around third-person, team-based, cover-based combat. Players will largely engage with armies of robots sent by Amada to stop them, but instead of just being able to shoot and kill the robots, they can strategically dismember them, removing their arms will prevent them from shooting, removing their legs will slow down, etc. However, this may not bring them down permanently, in which case additional work will need to be put in place.

As this is also a team-based game, players will also be able to use your team to help take out some of the bigger opponents by getting them to focus fire on specific spots. The Binary Domain also has voice recognition, so players can also issue voice commands to AI teammates if they have a headset to do so. Without a headset, each console's standard controller will have controls attached to certain buttons. AI teammates will also have a "trust meter", which shows how much they trust the player with their life, the higher the trust meter, the more risk they will be willing to take. The meter can be filled or emptied during fights, as well as by giving right or wrong answers during conversations that take place during levels.
