Arcana Heart 3 is a 2D versus fighter with an all female cast. Japan has a problem: planar faults appearing all over the country. Rumor has it that powerful Sky Stones can be found in these rifts. The 23 fighters, all using various character designs (for example a ninja, a clown or a witch), try to get their hands on a Celestial Stone and of course face off against others...

The basics are similar to other games of the same genre: the two fighters try to fight by depleting the other's health bar. In the process, players use both regular and special attacks (activated by pressing button combinations). The two specialties of the combat system are a dedicated air dash button, with the result that much of the action takes place in the air, and the 23 Arcana. These are demons that can be freely chosen and activated during the game. These have their own set of special attacks that can be combined with the character's for greater effect. Each character has a bar separated into three parts and depletes when using special attacks: one regenerates quickly and the others fill up with successful attacks from the player or opponent. When more of the bar is full, more powerful attacks can be launched. Available game modes are story/arcade (seven regular fights and one boss fight with banter in between), versus (simple fights against the AI ​​or another player) and score attack (one fight after another to a hunt for big evils).

The console port adds voice acting during story mode and online multiplayer.
