Located on the northern shore of the Moon Sea in the Forgotten Realms, Phlan was once a thriving commercial city. However, lately, monsters have started moving in, gradually turning entire neighborhoods into ruins. Only New Phlan remained under human control, but its inhabitants are afraid to venture into monster-infested areas. In order to clean up the nearby Barren River and rebuild Phlan, local authorities spread rumors of alleged riches hidden somewhere in the town. A group of adventurers, attracted by this news, sail to Phlan and accept the quest.
Pool of Radiance is the first adaptation of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game system into a computer game format. At the start of the game, the player can use a predefined group of six characters or create each of them from scratch. Six races (human, elf, dwarf, gnome, halfling, and half-elf) and four classes (fighter, cleric, wizard, and rogue) are available. The player can change character attributes and assign a moral alignment to each.
