Syndicate for Nintendo and Sega systems adapts the computer original to the capabilities of the consoles. Although it follows the same gameplay model, it is redesigned in a much more cartoony style, features multiple differences in gameplay and controls, and features completely new levels.
Taking on the role of a criminal syndicate leader in a dark cyberpunk future, the player controls teams of cyborg agents on a mission: assassinate politicians, opinion leaders or leaders of rival syndicates, recover important items , kidnap scientists or eliminate enemy agents. The world map consists of 50 regions, each containing a level (two training levels are also available). Stages are shown in isometric view, and one to four agents are controlled. Unlike indirect cursor control in computer versions, on consoles agents are controlled directly, with potential targets selected automatically. Unlike multi-layered versions of the video game, all levels consist of a single layer.
Between missions, taxes from conquered territories can be spent on researching new weapons and cybernetic upgrades for agents. These are all the same as on the computer builds, except for the flamethrower, which has been replaced with the less awful 'cooler'. The indirect control of agents with drugs influencing adrenaline, perception and intelligence also remains the same. The police and guards from the original are gone, their places taken by robotic drones.
