In Rune Factory 2, the player, Kyle by default, is an amnesiac who wanders the town of Alvarna and is discovered by a girl named Mana.
As in the first Rune Factory game, the gameplay is a mix of farming found in the Harvest Moon series and combat. The player must cultivate and maintain their crops and build their house, and there are also dungeons to fight and befriend monsters. Your character's stamina is still dependent on the rune point meter, and once depleted, it will start draining the health point meter.
The player will marry a potential girl from the town and have a child with her, the gender of the child will be up to the player. Unlike the Harvest Moon games, the player will then continue playing as a child, which is integral to the plot of the game. To the point that the goal of the game is to build a school, a goal left behind by Kyle one evening when he left home.
