Popeye 2 is a side-scrolling platform game in which the player embodies Popeye. The player can walk in all directions, kick, stoop and jump. By using the punch attack, the player can destroy bricks. When destroyed, some bricks will reveal spinach that can be collected. The number of spinach harvested determines the size of Popeye's fist. When Popeye is hit by an enemy, his fist size decreases again. The player can collect a maximum of seven cans of spinach, in which case the player gets a ranged attack where he shoots cans of spinach. When the player loses all spinach, they die. Each series of levels ends with a level boss.
