One of many different titles based on Steven Spielberg's 1993 dinosaur thriller, the version for NES and Game Boy is a top-down action game with exploration elements.
Playing as Dr. Alan Grant, the player must travel through six levels completing certain objectives, including rescuing the children Tim and Lex, restoring power, destroying Raptor nests, and finally leaving the dinosaur-infested island. To advance through a level, a certain number of dinosaur eggs scattered around the area must be collected or destroyed. This will reveal an access card used to access buildings, or other items needed to complete the mission. Computer terminals in the park can be used to ask for advice on the next step.
Naturally, the levels are filled with hostile dinosaurs. Dr. Grant can fend them off with his weapon. Several types of ammo are available, varying in damage and firing patterns. Dinosaur kills will always drop the most basic ammo type, the others must be found. Next to the ammo clips are boxes with question marks to collect. These can include beneficial bonuses like increased health, but can also be dangerous and reveal a bomb.
Some levels end with boss encounters, including a Triceratops stampede and a Tyrannosaurus Rex fight.
