All-Star Baseball 2000 is the second handheld installment in Acclaim's baseball series and the first for Game Boy Color. It is closely based on the previous year's game, with the main changes being the addition of color graphics and updated rosters and teams for the 1999 MLB season.
All of the same game modes from the predecessor return: Exhibition, Season (now with four different possible durations), Playoffs, All-Star Game, Home Run Derby, and Stick Practice. All 30 teams from the 1999 season are available.
The gameplay remains largely unchanged from the previous year or even Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball. Throwing and batting are viewed from behind the base, while while running and pitching, the view switches to an isometric perspective of the pitch. Launches are made by first aiming via height and direction meters, then choosing the style of launch and finally the speed. Flapping is done the traditional way by pressing buttons for a swing or bunt, with variations done via the D-Pad.
